In most of the world summer means the sun is hottest and shines for longer periods of time than the rest of the year. We tend to venture outside more, look for excuses to get fresh air and seek vacation getaways in wondrous locales near large bodies of water or posh pools. But even if you are taking a longer walk in a local park, you need to make sure you are protected with skin safe sunscreens.
My philosophy for all things skin related is to keep it simple, without sacrificing quality. Everything I recommend I personally use: both because of the caliber of ingredients and the integrity of the manufacturing process. Translation: Using these “clean” beauty products means you not only look younger and more fabulous as you age, your skin isn’t prone to absorbing the harmful UVA or UVB rays that chemically laden products attract. Phew! One less thing — or wrinkle — to worry about.
Without further ado, here are my favorite skin safe sunscreens:
Veritas Honour, Ultimate DNA Defense: With an SPF of 30 and made from a blend of plant and seed extracts, this product is also loaded with the zinc oxide (13.5%) we need to keep harmful UV rays at bay. My clients and friends love it because it goes on smooth without the thick — and sometimes opaque white — residue that other zinc-based products leave behind. It works as a primo primer for your makeup too.
Goddess Garden Organics: Proven its efficacy time and time again as my favorite body sunscreen, plus I know it’s safe for the environment. I’ve used a variety of their products, you can’t go wrong with their selection. A wonderful option for both you and your kids. Read their blog on broad spectrum protection and why it should be a priority when making your sun protection selection.
And here’s the EWG 2016 list – always a good resource.
It’s true that paying attention to how we take care of our skin is vitally important during summer months, but we shouldn’t reserve putting a premium on skin protection for one season a year. Make your skin regime as a daily, non-negotiable priority. Whether you are sixty or sixteen, your face — and all your beautiful features — will thank you.
